Caring
for Orphans throughout the Year
A loving hug, a listening ear, a caring mom to wipe a tear – orphaned children don’t
have these things -- unless you and I reach out. The number of orphans keeps growing, especially
where poverty or AIDS is epidemic. Millions of orphans around the world live in terrible conditions
with little to eat. They feel abandoned and are very afraid; but we are trying to change that. And
we are -- in places like Africa, Romania, and China! You can help us put rays of joy into these
precious children’s lives by choosing Gift #2 in our Holiday Gift Catalog! One
of our partners recently joined our Beijing staff on their weekly visit to area orphanages in
China.
Later, Judy wrote, “A recent Saturday’s experience with volunteers and staff from
Operation Blessing—Beijing brought me a great deal of joy and satisfaction. Few events in
my adult life compare to the emotions that overcame me as I participated.
“My heart was full of both love and sadness, as I held a very tiny seven-day-old baby girl
in my arms. The happiness came from a trust knowing her cleft palate would be repaired through
the efforts of Operation Blessing, but the sadness occurred from knowing she potentially faced
a life of uncertainty, and without knowing the love of growing up in a home environment.
“This baby was only one of many orphans that the Operation Blessing team helped that
day, but unfortunately there are scores of others that can’t be reached due to sheer numbers,
dispersed locations and limited resources. I’ve found that even simple things can bring
much joy to children who live in an orphanage environment despite the valiant efforts of the dedicated
staffs at orphanages like the ones we visited. Operation Blessing made the day for these few children
by providing simple items and experiences others take for granted….a walking tour through
a supermarket, a McDonald’s hamburger, a dress for a pre-teen who had only trousers, a special
lunch of dumplings, and someone to hold on to. The staff also brought milk and special foods orphanage
budgets cannot accommodate.
“There remains much to be done. Operation Blessing China is an organization most decidedly
dedicated to helping those in need. I am fortunate to have been able to be but a small part of
their efforts, and look forward to helping again in many other ways.”
Judy was able to see the run down conditions of the orphanage buildings. She was able to hear
the compassionate but discouraged hearts of the caregivers. She was able to hold and hug the boys
and girls. She then understood why our team is dedicated to spending quality time teaching the
orphans basic life skills. Judy saw why we ensure orphans who have special medical needs receive
the best attention possible. She also saw the reason we supply orphanages with cribs, clothes,
food, toys and additional caregivers. Will you join Judy in helping these little ones?
Share Holiday Joy with an Orphan!
Orphans crave love and compassion. They usually have nothing to call their own wearing worn hand-me-down
clothes. You can give a young boy his own brand new toy for just $10. You can provide an orphaned
girl her first new outfit ever for just $10! The look of wonder in their eyes and the smiles on
their faces when they receive their gifts -- are priceless.
