Look at your watch.
Is it late at night or early in the morning? No matter what time it is,
our Hunger Strike Force (HSF) tractor-trailer trucks are on their way to
pick up loads of donated food and deliver them to hungry communities. For
many families the food and other critical supplies carried on the big red
and white trucks are the difference between healthy living and painfully
empty stomachs.
Taking It To The Streets
John and Dana moved back to the United States over a year ago with their
four young children. The transition seemed to be going smoothly until John
lost his job and had difficulty finding other employment. Sadly, they had
to give up their home. Homeless and with little money for food, the situation
became desperate.
Hearing of the family’s horrible predicament, Pastor Brian and
Paula Pierce of Tampa Bay’s Taking It To The Streets stepped
in to help. As a part of the Somebody Cares Tampa Bay Network, which is
an Operation Blessing partner, they were able to provide John and Dana’s
family with nutritious food and hygiene items from the HSF deliveries
as well as finances for a temporary place to live for about year. Having
recently moved, the family is doing very well. A grateful Dana commented,
“We knew God would not let us down. Praise Him!”
Taking It To The Streets has been a part of OBI’s network
for over two years. Helping families like John’s is one of the many
parts of their ministry. With the help of a monthly delivery from OBI
as well as assistance from other partners, every month they provide an
amazing 8,000 to 9,000 meals to the homeless and working poor through
“church in the park” and the food pantry! As a former drug
addict, Pastor Brian also sees the life-saving importance of the two recovery
houses they have set up for men and women. “I’m grateful for
the body of Christ that helps people,” he shared. “Without
you [Operation Blessing] we couldn’t do half of the stuff we do.”
Field of Souls Ministries
Field of Souls Ministries in St. Petersburg is one of more than a dozen
organizations that benefit from our monthly HSF delivery to Taking
It To The Streets. In addition to having a full-time job, every month
Pastor Arnold Williams and his team delivers food and hygiene items to
about 400 struggling senior citizens living in the area. These basic supplies
prevent the men and women from having to make a choice of whether to buy
food or medicine. Most live on fixed incomes and run out of money by the
fifteenth of each month. “People are just thankful for everything
we bring them,” said Pastor Williams.
