National Hunger Awareness Day Event Brings Relief Partners Together
Chesapeake, Va. – On June 7, Operation Blessing and its hunger relief partners gathered in their newly-expanded Virginia warehouse to commemorate National Hunger Awareness Day.
For the past three years, National Hunger Awareness Day has reminded Americans of the relentless, life-threatening problem that faces more than 35 million people across the nation – hunger.
“This event gave Operation Blessing an opportunity to celebrate and appreciate their partners, whether they give or receive from us,” said Rebecca Cross, Donor Relations Manager at Operation Blessing.
In addition to showing their appreciation, Cross added that Operation Blessing was also able to highlight OBI’s work locally in the fight against hunger.
“We want to raise awareness of what we are doing to help people in the Hampton Roads area, as well as across the United States,” said Cross.
Operation Blessing provides nutritious food and essential supplies to hundreds of thousands of children and adults in need through a vast partner network of national agencies, soup kitchens and school lunch programs.
During the open-house event, Operation Blessing President Bill Horan expressed his appreciation to the partners and corporate donors in attendance, as well as explaining Operation Blessing’s current warehouse expansion.
Operation Blessings’ Chesapeake, Virginia warehouse facility increased to 65,000 square-feet from 35,000 last month, allowing continued expansion of OBI’s hunger relief work.
With additional warehouse facilities located in Ocala, Fla., and Riverside, Calif., Operation Blessing is strategically positioned to fight hunger in America.
OBI teams supply food and goods to hunger relief partners around the country every day through its dedicated fleet of Hunger Strike Force trucks. On Hunger Awareness Day alone, Operation Blessing’s tractor trailers delivered more than 270,000 pounds of food to help meet the needs of the hungry in America.
Frank Allen, Operation Blessing partner and Pastor of Sanctuary of Hope Church in Portsmouth, Va., expressed his gratitude for OBI’s service during the Hunger Awareness Day event.
“I can not imagine facing the needy families of the community without the support of Operation Blessing,” he said. “We all say ‘Thank you.’”
“It was a very successful event,” said Cross. “After it was over a partner who delivers the food to the people in need gave me a hug with tears in her eyes, and said, ‘It can be difficult to do what we do sometimes, so it is nice to be recognized and appreciated.’”
