Medical Teams Treat the Poor around the World
This
year over 300,000 men, women and children received medical care they could not have gotten
any other way – because of partners like you! We sent out 597 medical teams to communities
around the world in countries like Afghanistan, Guatemala, India, Nigeria, the Philippines,
Thailand and Ukraine. Lives and limbs were saved; like the leg of 8-month-old Josef, in
Afghanistan. Read more, and then join us in caring for the sick by choosing Gift #8 in

Josef’s Story
In late August, Dr. Tabije went with a volunteer medial team from the Philippines to
Afghanistan. Over the next few weeks, the team of five treated 2,961 patients and shared
new techniques with the local medical community.
Early in the mission an 8-month-old boy named Josef was brought to see him. A few days
before there had been a horrible accident; boiling hot water had spilled on the infant’s
leg. The family had no money to take the child to the doctor’s office; they did
not even have a basic first aid kit. The boy was in extreme pain and had a high risk
of developing a muscle infection.
Dr. Tabije quickly saw that 8% of the infant’s leg had a first degree burn. He
gently treated the burn giving the baby’s mother antibiotics and sterile gauze
for continued care. It saved the child’s leg. Without care infection would have
spread to the boy’s bone resulting in likely amputation before the little one
learned to walk!
Our partners helped rescue him from that tragedy!
Indonesia
It is common for Indonesia’s working poor to go their entire lives without seeing
a doctor. Joni was such a man. Working as a garbage truck driver most of his long life,
Joni endured pain throughout his body for decades. "I do realize that I am sick
and need to be cured. I endure the pain as much as I can take it. I just do my job,”
said Joni. “How can I go for a medical treatment? It is very expensive."
Thankfully, Joni’s employer told him about Operation Blessing’s medical
clinic. After seeing the doctor, Joni was diagnosed with a treatable ailment. He received
free medicine that allowed him to work without pain for the first time that he can remember.
